Will You Use URL Shorteners?
Not long ago I posted my frequent daily newsletter on my website. Because this was a longer Wordpress Web address, like countless other internet marketers, I used a URL shortener service to make this url more functional and manageable.

I posted this shortened Url to Twitter and placed it inside my weekly email publishing. Instantly I began receiving email messages from my subscribers and followers.

I examined immediately to find out if this was indeed my fault, but I immediately found that the URL shortener provider didn't work. The funny thing is that I was utilizing Google's own system, Goo.gl, and simply because of that everyone thought I made the mistake, I mean Google is Google.

Before that I was using the extremely well-liked bit.ly but after that I changed to Goo.gl because like everyone else, I trust Google much more! And everything works much better together with Google; this was the very first time something I utilized with Google had not worked as prepared. Also it just wasn't my hyperlinks, not one of the urls with Goo.gl were working. No biggie in case you were not backlinking to Black Friday and/or Cyber Monday deals via the url shortener service.

But this brings up the entire problem of regardless of whether or not you need to use a link shortener?

A URL link shortener works by redirecting your smaller website link to the longer one you have entered into their storage system. If it is a permanent 301 redirect, your SEO benefits should go through to your extended url. No problem on that part. If the shortener service utilizes a 302 short-term link then SEO isn't passed thru to your own longer link because the search engines only read this link as temporary.

A lot of the major shortening services use correct redirects - in case they're working!

Many people only start utilizing shorteners simply because of the popularity of Twitter, and they only allow you to post 140 characters, which includes links. The technique to utilize shortneres also allows you to distribute your url links easier over the web.

It is also a great and easy way to mask your affiliate marketer hyperlinks if you're into affiliate marketing. Think about it, many people share shortened URLs more simply, simply because they are somewhat misterious and individuals usually link to funny videos, pictures or stories on social sites with these links.

There are a good number of benefits but also a few "cons" when utilizing shortening providers. My advice is always to definitely include them in your internet marketing method, but pick a great and reliable service which has a good track record and has all the features you will need. Spreading your shortened URLs across a few of the major and less popular services is a wise idea! You can use one service for links inside your eBook, short reports, etc., then one other for your blog, Twitter and many others.
